American Summer. Destination: Texas

Texas is located in the Southern-Central United States and is known for its Tex-Mex, Barbecues, Cowboys and it’s size! As the saying goes, “Everything’s bigger in Texas.” The locations where Spanish students could stay are the cities of San Antonio and Austin and the surrounding areas.

In July, Texas can be very warm. The average high temperature for that months is 35C (95F) and 23C (73F) as the minimum. Humidity is also high in Texas during the month of July with around 65-70% humidity as an average. Usually, the heavy rains in Texas are in May and June but, bring your raincoat just in case!

There are a lot of activities for teenagers in and around San Antonio and Austin. San Antonio has numerous amusement parks, museums, shopping districts, and festivals you won’t find anywhere else! Also, San Antonio’s location makes a weekend escape out of the city easy and fun. In less than two hours you can be in the beautiful “Hill Country” of Texas, or boating on one of the many lakes in the area. Even the beach is a popular option as it takes less than 3 hours to get to the Gulf of Mexico from San Antonio.

San Antonio is the 7th largest city in the United States with a population of 1.3 million. It is known for the “River Walk” (a path lined with shops and restaurants in the heart of the city that winds along the river), the Alamo, various amusement parks and tourists! Approximately 26 million people visit San Antonio every year. That many people can’t be wrong about it! With so much to see and do, be sure that what you are looking for in American Summer, you will find here! One month won’t be enough to see it all!

Austin, the capital of Texas, is a smaller city than San Antonio but is very diversified. It is probably the most liberal city in the state and was named “Live Music Capital of the World”.  According to the magazine Travel & Leisure, Austin is number one on the list of cities with the best people, referring to personality and character.

Austin is a Mecca of artists, music and diversified people. In the famous “SoCo” district, you can find eclectic boutiques, art galleries, one-of-a-kind restaurants, and music on the street. Austin also has its own lake near downtown. Here you can take a walk, rent a kayak or take a little cruise to see the wildlife of the area. Don’t forget about the famous restaurants in Austin. For example, Carlos Santana’s  María María and Sandra Bullock’s Bess Bistro. Once you experience a month in Austin, you won’t want to be anywhere else!
