Sometimes it is hard to expose children to diversity in the United States. Becoming a host family will open a door for your children to our increasingly global society and, at the same time create a life long friendship!
Do the Spanish students have planned activities or classes while they are in the US?
Spanish students will not have planned activities or classes together for the following reasons:
- The host families are not concentrated in one city or area. It would be too much to ask for the families to drive long distances on a regular basis.
- The main goal for the students from Spain is to improve their English. Getting together with other Spanish Speakers, even for just a few hours a day, will take-away from their progression.
How are the Spanish students selected?
Each Spanish student interested in participating must complete the proper documents and have an interview to asses his/her maturity, desire to participate, and English level. The interview takes place in person and the parent’s of the student are also questioned as to why they think American Summer is the right program. Not all students that apply are accepted and the process of selecting the students is taken very seriously.
